Hello,
We’re hoping to do a short 2-3 day trek in Sikkim in a couple of weeks.
Are you able to help us with this?
Many thanks
Can you please help me out with the following information:
- Your group size
- Group’s prior high altitude trekking experience
- Current physical fitness level
- What kind of treks are you looking for? Cultural homestay treks or camping treks?
Let us know your inputs please. We’ll guide you accordingly.
Thanks for getting back to me.
Our group size is only 2 people. We do not have much high altitude trekking experience but both have good fitness.
Ideally, I think we’d like to do a trek where we camp for 1 night which would allow us to see some nice landscape views.
Do you offer anything that might fit these requirements?
Now camping for one day won’t take you to a very scenic place. If you can afford to camp for at least 2 nights, I can suggest you the following itinerary:
Day 1: Drive to Yuksom from NJP/Bagdogra – 160 Km by car – 8/9 hours. Lodge or homestay accommodation
Day 2: Drive to Melliaching – 20 km by car – 1 hour – Trek to Bhanjyang (2250 m) via Goru Jurey – 11 km – 5/6 hours. Camp.
Day 3: Trek to Bajre Dara (3350 m)– 9 km – 6/7 hours. Camp.
Day 4: Trek to Khecheopalri Monastery (1970 m) via Bhanjyang and Lamathang – 15 km – 6/7 hours. Homestay
Day 5: From here drive to NJP / Bagdogra – 150 km – 7/8 hours or to Pelling (if you have additional holidays) – 24 Km – 1 hour.
From Bajre Dara you get excellent up close views of the third highest mountain of the world i.e. Mt Kanchendzongha. In the following link you’ll get photos of the trail:

See if time permits to complete this trek. Otherwise I’ll suggest you a shorter homestay trek.
Let us know your thoughts please? We’ll proceed accordingly.
Thanks for this – the itinerary looks good!
I think we can make our own way to Yuksom and start from there. We would arrive on Yuksom on the 7th of February. Would it be possible to start the trek on the 8th?
Additionally:
– Would we be able to leave our luggage somewhere whilst we complete the trek?
– Would we be completing the trek as part of a group or on our own (on our own would be ideal but I understand if that’s not possible)?
The trek starts from Melliaching and finishes at Khecheopalri. While returning from Khecheopalri you won’t be crossing Yuksom either. One thing can be done. You leave the luggage with the cab which drops you off at Melliaching. The same cab will come to Khecheopalri on Day 4 to collect tents and other gears. That cab can drop off your luggage at Khecheopalri on Day 4. Sure we can manage it.
I sent you a customised itinerary and during your date window we don’t have any group attempting Bajre Dara trek. Yours will be a customised private trek for 2 persons only.
Sounds great, we’d like to go ahead with the trek.
Can I also ask what we would need to carry in our bags for the trek (just so we can plan what size bag we need)? Would it just be our personal clothing etc?
In your personal rucksack you just need to carry your clothing and any other personal items. This is a comprehensive list of things to carry on a camping trek. We’ll provide and carry sleeping bags and tents. Usually for a week long trek 40 L rucksacks suffice for such setups. A 40-50 L backpack should be more than enough for this trek.
